2 Months

Our little man is 2 months old today! Time has flown by! At our doctor's appointment today, he weighed in at 13 lbs, 11 oz and measured 23 1/4 inches long! He is growing like crazy, but is sweet as can be!
Just a comparison below: Isabelle at 2 months. She was 13 lbs, 10 oz and 23 3/4 inches long. VERY close!

Time. Time. Time.

When I knew I would be on maternity leave for 12 weeks, I had such a grand list of things I would take care of; painting rooms that still need to be painted, installing things that are just sitting in their boxes, unpacking the rest of the crap from our move a year ago, etc.  Here we are, week 8 of my time off and I have accomplished almost nothing from said list. How is it that I am home all day (most of the time) with just one little baby (who really usually does sleep about 4 hours a day) and I cannot manage to get anything done? I consider myself very lucky because I am home, but still get to send Belle to daycare AND still get to have cleaning people come every other week. Yet, I can't manage to get anything done. Could it be that those 4 hours of napping the little guy does are done in 15-20 minute increments which I try to use to eat, go to the bathroom, check the mail, get a drink, pump out the remainder of this milk?? I don't know.  I am now finding myself sitting here writing this, while he is sleeping and Belle is eating lunch and I am feeling guilty about taking 15 minutes to do this rather than something productive.  Why the incessant feeling of guilt?! Why do we, as mom's (and I suppose maybe dad's too) feel like we always have to be doing something? Why do we always have a lingering feeling of guilt if we take an hour to ourselves to just chill and watch TV or do absolutely nothing for once? And why isn't there more time in the day for us to veg for a few AND get stuff done AND spend adequate time with our children and spouses?

Moral of the story: I need more time.

Sweet Girl

While we were eating dinner tonight, George woke up and was fussing in his crib.  After a little while, Belle said "I'll be right back" and ran upstairs for something.  A few minutes later, when she was just a little too quiet, Nick went up to see what she was doing and found her in George's crib with him, patting his back to soothe him.

I love my kids!

Welcome George Wesley!

Our long awaited little bundle has arrived! George Wesley Lumsden joined this world at 7:46 am on May 20 weighing in at 8lbs 12oz and 21 inches long.  He is just perfect! Big sister Isabelle is slowly adjusting to him. She really wants to help and is doing remarkable well considering the time he takes from me (leaving mostly just Daddy for her right now).  I am truly blessed to have such a perfect little family! :)

Birth story: I had a doctor's appointment Thursday afternoon and was dilated 2-3 cm.  The doctor said she didn't expect me to make it to my next appointment, and I guess she was right!  My mom flew in from Michigan Thursday evening.  We went to pick her up at the airport, picked up dinner, got home around 10pm, ate and went to bed.  I woke up at 3am to a really strong contraction and knew it was the real thing this time.  I only waited about 20 minutes to call the doctor because I knew it was going to be fast.  I woke Nick up and we were on our way to the hospital by about 3:30am.  We arrived at the hospital shortly after 4am. When we arrived, I was dilated to almost 4cm and in a lot of pain.  They admitted me and by about 5:30 am, I was dilated to 8cm.  The nurses were freaking out because the anesthesiologist was in the room next door redoing an epidural for another patient and they didn't think I would wait long enough to get one if he didn't hurry.  About 30 minutes later, I was at 9cm and the doctor said I probably wouldn't be able to wait for the epidural. Thank goodness the anesthesiologist came in and got me hooked up! However, I don't think the epidural really had time to set it because I was still feeling a lot of pain - especially in my left side, but it was enough relief for me to rest for a little bit before pushing.  Pushing was a lot more difficult this time around than I remember with Belle - but I couldn't feel ANYTHING with her.  I felt just about everything this time... However, after pushing for about 20 minutes, I had a perfect little baby boy in my arms!

The first 6 days with George have been a breeze.  He is such a content and good little baby. He rarely cries and is very alert.  He sleeps very well through the night - getting up only a couple times.  We are still having a little bit of difficulty breast feeding, but are getting used to each other and making progress!  George lost 12 oz in the first few days.  He had an appointment for a jaundice checkup on Monday and was down to 8lbs 0oz.  We had another appointment yesterday to check weight and he is up to 8lbs 1oz.  We will have another appointment next Friday for our two week checkup and are hoping for some more weight gain by then!

Happy Mother's Day!

My sweet little girl (and husband) got me some beautiful flowers and cards today for Mother's Day! They let me sleep in and enjoy doing nothing all day.  It was fabulous! And my girl worked on saying "Happy Mother's Day" to me all day! What an angel!

Only 15 more days until my second little angel is scheduled to arrive.  I am hoping for an earlier delivery, but suppose I need to just be satisfied with a healthy, happy baby! :)

We have been searching for a bedroom set for Belle, but have been struggling trying to justify the cost when we have so many other things to pay for this spring.  I think I just found two twin beds on Craig's List for  1/4 of the price of the furniture store and a dresser for under $100 (instead of $500)! SOOOO hopefully it all works out and we can get her bedroom set afterall for a fraction of the price that we originally had budgeted.  I also found the stroller I am registered for on Craig's List for 1/2 the price of new.  Still waiting to hear back if that is still available or not.  I sure hope so! I am all about saving some moolah right now! We still have plenty to pay for to get the yard up to par (and it's not looking hopeful to get a deck in this year).  We opened the pool last Thursday and the filter blew up, so we have to replace that at a pretty pricey penny... It's always something! The joys of home ownership!  But I have to say, I'll take that over being cramped into a place that we are not happy with anytime!

Anyway, Happy Mother's Day to all!

36 weeks and counting

Well, here it is: I began to lose my mucus plug last Thursday (at 35 weeks) and more on Saturday.  That's too much info for some, but exciting to the miserably pregnant!  I have been fully expecting this baby to come at any time because with Belle, this happened on Sunday morning and she showed up Thursday morning.  However, nothing has been the same this pregnancy, so I am not really quite sure why I keep thinking things might be the same.  So far, it has been 8 days with no baby.  I have been having some pretty tough contractions that last for about 2 minutes, spaced about 5-10 minutes apart for a few hours at a time, then they just stop.  This has been going on since last Saturday.  Needless to say, I am anxious for this baby to arrive and for things to not be quite so miserable with my body!

I had a doctor's appointment yesterday and the good news is, I didn't gain anymore weight! Before I left my appointment, Dr. Leslie said "Happy dilating!" So, she knows this baby is coming sometime soon-ish.  I am hosting a baby shower for my friend Julia this Saturday, so I am now hoping Baby waits until after that.  THEN I'm going to do whatever it takes to get this show on the road! My feet are enormous, my back is sore, my stomach is sore and I can't do half the things I normally would do.  I'm really ready to just get life back to "normal" with a new baby!  I will keep you all posted.  I am very ready to meet the newest Little Lumsden!

33 Weeks

Dang. 33 weeks alread.  Here is the huge belly. I am officially 2 pounds shy of where I was when I delivered Belle.  Good news - in the last 2.5 weeks, I gained only 2 lbs (which is much better than the average of 2 lbs per week that I HAVE been going at for the past couple months).  I am feeling very large and not at all in charge.
As most of you know, I have been having some seriously swollen feet, ankles and legs the past week.  Here is a picture. The right one is so much worse than the left, but neither fit into my shoes anymore! I am resorting to breaking the new dress code at work and wearing only flip flops, because they will actually fit onto my feet.  If I could reach them, I would at least paint my toenails, but I do not see that one happening anytime soon!  Anyway, take a look at the pic... Seriously... That's just not right...
